May 25 & 30: U of C Japanese Internship Program Info. Session for Senshu Students

The very first Japanese Internship Program for Senshu University students is scheduled in Feb.-Mar. (6 weeks) in 2017 in our program.   I participated in their Info. Sessions to introduce our program (as well as Calgary and around) and answer their questions.  11 students in total came to the sessions and showed high interest and enthusiasm.  This Internship Program is created for students who want to teach Japanese in the future.  Two things which surprised me the most were..... 1. So many graduate students and 2. So many international students (non-Japanese native speakers)!!   All the participants were highly educated and motivated.   Well, it will be a very competitive selection!

Oh-sensei was wearing the U of C shirts for PR!  Thank you!

May 27 Extra Calligraphy Class by Matsuo-Sensei

Matsuo-sensei (Senshu Uni.) gave our students an extra calligraphy class.  This was their 2nd Calligraphy class at Senshu University, but all the participants really enjoyed the class.  Matsuo-sensei encouraged students to "focus","feel" and "express".
Wow!  I am amazed by our U of C artists!  Teachers do have power to influence students!

May 27 Elementary school visit

U of C students went to visit a nearby elementary school and shared the school lunch and afternoon together.   Elementary school students (Grade 6) were very enthusiastic and friendly and welcomed us very well.

Getting school lunch

Waiting to visit the classrooms for lunch

Cultural Exchange Assembly

Self-Introduction in Japanese.  Everyone was so curious to know about our students.

Myles received a little hat as a present from a student.  It fit him very well!

Elementary school students taught us many things about Japanese culture, history, and local information.  Their research was well summerized and the level of their presentation was very high.
I think these elementary students were good models for their own presentation coming up (June 1)!!
If elementary students can do, university students can do.... more likely "should do better", right!?!?

May 26 Harajuku - Takeshitadoori - Omotesando

You can see and buy  many interesting things in Harajuku!

I thought there were some "very unique" people in Harajuku, but they were actually some kind of celebrities on TV!!   You never know what really makes people famous these days!!

Onigiri, Gohan, and Sushi T-shirts

Interesting fashions

The norm of Kimono has changed a lot!
A lot of fusion is happening!

Interesting decorations!

May 25 Japanese cuisine

Japanese cuisine has such a "beautiful" presentation with a seasonal hint.  Look at these!
You enjoy it with your mouth and eyes!
